John Ottenwess, who goes by Jack to his friends and colleagues, is an associate at Querrey & Harrow’s Chicago office. Jack’s work primarily focuses on civil litigation defense, but he has proven himself useful in commercial transactions, and contract claims.
Mr. Ottenwess graduated cum laude from UIC John Marshall Law School. During his time in law school, Jack was an editor for the John Marshall Law Review, the founder and president of the school’s Disability Within the Law Organization, the manager for two Moot Court Competition Teams, a graduate teaching assistant, and a steady member on the Dean’s List. Additionally, while in school, Jack was an extern with the National Council on Disability. He assisted with projects such as voting law research and medical treatment discrimination; both of which advised the Federal Executive and Legislative Branches’ public policy.
Jack’s upbringing primed him for defense work. Prior to starting law school, he was a conflicts analyst for a prosperous medical malpractice defense firm in Detroit, MI. While in law school, Jack clerked at a civil litigation defense firm before joining Querrey & Harrow as a summer associate.
Outside of the legal field, after graduating from Michigan State University, Jack worked in Shanghai, China doing international sports marketing. This peculiar experience allows Jack to bring a unique approach and perspective to all his work and is a great addition to an already multi-facted firm.
